Other Opera does not facilitate workshops, school visits or lectures as outreach work. The company believes that the most valuable, educative experiences are gained from the true artistic process: working alongside professionals on real productions in real venues.
Young people and adults are recruited to participate in productions as cast (including understudies/covers) and orchestra members, and internships are offered to young people, students and young professionals interested in working in the creative industries as technical staff, design staff, production staff, directors and music directors. Non-professional participants are in no way patronised and are treated as professionals throughout productions, during which the highest artistic standards are demanded at all times.
As well as working with students and staff from Queen Mary Westfield College, Other Opera have extensive knowledge of the local area of East London and its networks, having worked with many primary and secondary schools, colleges, community groups and venues, local authorities, musical and theatrical organisations, festivals, businesses and local funders over the past 10 years.
